MLA Style Changes with 7th Edition (2009)

The latest revision of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (7th, 2009) brings some helpful changes in the preparation of cited references.  The Preface  to the new handbook summarizes these changes, but highlights include:

  • Italicizing vs underlining titles
  • Identifying the medium of publication in EVERY cited work (eg Print. Web. Film.)
  • No more URL in web documents
  • Including volume AND issue in journal citations (expedites finding articles in electronic databases)

We will be updating the Resnick Library & Learning Center print and online guides over the summer.  Meanwhile, check out the MLA Handbook in the Reference collection at LB 2369.G53, or visit any of the excellent academic sites who have updated their information, such as http://www.byui.edu/WritingCenter/MLA%20Changes.htm
